Everyday Adventures in Havachon Heaven

The Good, Crazy, & Adorable Life of One Havachon Puppy

The Daisy Runway

Daisy is a nut. A lovable, adorable, sweet little nut. We call her our little peanut.

But sometimes her nuttiness is dangerous to her, like when she charges at full speed across the kitchen floor and only puts the brakes on an inch away from the door frame or refrigerator, causing her entire body to crash into it with a bang.

Her nuttiness was also the cause of her severe ACL/meniscus tear, when she jumped off a chair with such crazy excitement that she landed wrong and ended up in a world of pain…and in surgery.

Ack! Keep those cold germs to yourself, please!!

Ack! I don’t ever want to go through that again!

So now we don’t let her jump off the furniture, we carry her off with us. She seems to like that. And we watch out for other ways she can hurt herself, like her flying slide across the kitchen floor.

The solution – we put a long runner down across the kitchen floor, connecting the carpeted living room and family room. It may look odd, but now there’s no more slipping and sliding and Daisy seems to love it. 🙂 And hopefully we’ve avoided yet another emergency surgery.

Long runway, little Daisy. :)

I love my soft runway!

I love my soft runway!

It may not be orthodox in placement – I can’t say I’ve ever seen a home with a carpet runner across the kitchen – but it’s a whole lot safer for our little speed demon, so it’s staying. 🙂

Daisy Loves Herbert!

I fell behind with my blog visits this week – ACK!! Fortunately it’s all work related and nothing negative. Hopefully I can do more visiting today. 🙂 Meanwhile…

Even though Daisy had done some of her famous microsurgery on Herbert, the two of them are still thick as thieves.

We have no idea how this happened.

We have no idea how this happened.

But once they’re together, there’s no separating them.

We're settling in for the evening - you find your own place to relax.

And we sure don’t want to come between a dog and her snake!

You couldn't come between us even if you wanted to...

I can’t say I understand how Herbert ended up riding Daisy like a horse, but that’s how I found them and I just had to take pictures!

Happy Birthday Daisy!!

Yep, it’s official – Daisy turned FIVE on Friday! Yes, it was Friday the 13th, but for us, it’s a good luck day because that’s the day that our little sweetie was born. 😀

Daisy got big “good morning” greetings, and she actually seemed extra excited, as if she knew it was a special day. She jumped higher, romped, and did little ram-like jumps over absolutely nothing. 😀

Daisy loves over-the-shoulder hugs!

We started celebrating early with an extra long morning excursion out and about, despite the muddy grounds.

Daffodils should be shooting up in our flower garden, but instead we just have a muddy pool.

We couldn’t wait to give her her present – she de-stuffed poor Pinkie last week, but she loved him so much that we got her Pinkie’s little brother, Baby Blue.

This is Baby Blue, Pinky's little brother and Daisy's birthday present. :)

Daisy didn’t let go of Baby Blue all day.

Since one of Daisy’s favorite things is paper bags, we put Baby Blue into a long paper bag, scrunched up the end, and turned her present-opening into a homemade “mental exercise” toy. She had a blast and it took her a little while to figure it out.

Daisy’s day was full of kisses, cuddles and mushies. I think she’s already looking forward to her next birthday!

Daisy’s Christmas Tradition

We have two Christmases here in the Daisy family – one out of state with family, and our favorite one (which we call our real Christmas) here at home with just the four of us.

But Daisy has one tradition that she honors no matter where we celebrate – we call it “paper herding”:

Look at all the pretty paper presents I've collected!

Look at all the pretty wrapping paper presents I’ve collected!

Let's see...one...two...three...yep, looks like they're all here...

Let’s see…one…two…three…yep, looks like they’re all here…

And then, of course, comes our annual Christmas tradition…

Oh, I HATE this part of the holidays!

Oh, I HATE this part of the holidays!

...plotting....plotting...plotting...

…plotting….plotting…plotting…

We hope all our blogging buddies had fun Christmases too! Do your pets have any holiday traditions?

Oh Herbert, We Hardly Knew Ye…..

Poor Herbert. He’s not half the snake he used to be. One night with Daisy and it was poor Herbert’s last hurrah.

Herbert had it all. Three LOUD, easy to activate squeakers and lots of fuzzies. It was love at first sight for Daisy….unfortunately for Herbert.

Herbert

Herbert

Daisy and Herbert were inseparable.

Hello my new friend! Let's see what you're all about!

Hello my new friend! Let’s see what you’re all about!

She poked his squeakers with her nose….

Poke - Squeak! Poke Poke - Squeak Squeak!

Poke – Squeak! Poke Poke – Squeak Squeak!

Rolled him around….

Hmmmm....interesting....

Hmmmm….interesting….

And then finally got down to business.

You're miinnnne!

You’re miinnnne!

The next thing we knew, the squeakers that promised to continue squeaking even after being punctured were squeaking no more. In fact, they were rattling. Very appropriate for a snake, it’s true, but not for a squeaker toy!

Then we found the inevitable trail of evidence….

Endless trails of Herbert fuzzies told the whole sordid tale.

Endless trails of Herbert fuzzies told the whole sordid tale.

….and discovered that Herbert had given his all for love.

He’s still with us, bless his tenacious little heart, but he’s a silent friend now.

Herbert, post massacre. The rest of him looks much worse.

Herbert, post initiation. The rest of him looks much worse.

Monday Mischief: Snow Shocker!!

What happened??? Up until now, Daisy has always LOVED playing in the snow as much as we do. Now, suddenly, she doesn’t like it at all! Doesn’t that go completely against the Doggy Handbook??

We’ve been anxiously waiting for a good snowfall this winter. We had a lot of little teasers – little dustings of flurries – but a couple of weeks ago we were finally braced for a full-blown snowstorm.

And we got it. A wonderful, sparkling, frosty 8 inches of it. 🙂

snow 2.13

We couldn’t wait to take Daisy out into the snow to play. We got all our gear ready….

Big bear, medium bear, and baby bear gloves ;)

Big bear, medium bear, and baby bear gloves 😉

She seemed mesmerized by the deep white stuff lying outside the door, and she got all excited when her harness and leash made their appearance.

The harness is one thing, but this is going too far!

The harness is one thing, but this is going too far!

But once DD carried her outside and put her down in the snow, she just stood there in her little winter coat, frozen in place. Then, to our surprise, she turned around and pulled toward the door.

Hey, it's cold out here! Someone let me IN!!

Maybe if I face this way, they'll open that door....

Maybe if I face this way, they’ll open that door….

Weird. So DD picked her up and brought her further into the yard, then put her down and started running with her.

Daisy went part way out, then stopped abruptly, turned, and raced back toward the door. She wanted no part of that icy winter wonderland.

I've had enough of this! I wanna sit by the fire!

I’ve had enough of this! I wanna sit by the fire!

So where’s the mischief? Well, I guess there really isn’t any on Daisy’s part, but if I had to point a finger, I’d say it’s those mischievous little ice balls that collect all over Daisy’s tummy and between her pads. Because this…..

....ouchies....

….ouchies….

….inevitably leads to this….

....and now I had to suffer through a bath AND a brushing....

….and now I had to suffer through a bath AND a brushing….

….which led to this….

I refuse to show my face in this thing.

….and then this….

I blame YOU for all this!!

I blame YOU for all this!!

So maybe it’s not such a mystery after all as to why Daisy no longer wants to romp in the snow. 😉

Monday Mischief: Mommy’s Mistake is Daisy’s Gain

Hi friends! Daisy here.

I admit it – I’m an Opportunist Havachon. (“OH” for short, and that’s what Mommy always says when I take on this role! Coincidence? I think not.)

I wear my “OH” title proudly. 🙂

Last week something happened that allowed me to exercise my Opportunist skills, and I must say, I rose to the challenge quite well.

Mommy was trying to get something out of the back of the freezer, when I heard a crash followed by Mommy’s famous “OH NO-O-O!” Naturally, that was my Call To Action – I jumped down off my comfy sofa and raced into the kitchen – PAY DIRT! Ice cubes and ice shards were splayed all over the floor! Yippee! I love crunching on ice cubes!

Come to me, my slippery friend!

Come to me, my slippery friend!

AHA! Gotcha!

AHA! Gotcha!

Heehee! You make my tongue feel funny!

Heehee! You make my tongue feel funny!

Mommy says I actually helped her clean up her spill, but that’s just the facade I put on. I was really just enjoying playing with all that crunchy water! 😉

Monday Mischief – This Little Piggy Got Mauled

No, we’re not talking about our sweet little friend Coccolino, Daisy loves him and would never hurt him! We’re talking about a very short-lived addition to Daisy’s toy box.

We thought Daisy’s Destructo-Pup days were over. She’s been less aggressive with her toys over the past several months, so much so that we gave her a soft toy to play with again.

I love my new soft squeaky toy....whatever it is! ;)

I love my new soft squeaky toy….whatever it is! 😉

She did so well with it that we gave her another.

Cool! My first Halloween toy!

And another. 🙂

Wow a squeaky in every arm! I'm in heaven!

Wow a squeaky in every arm! I’m in heaven!

Daisy LOVES soft toys with squeakers and crunchy sounds, but she always used to disassemble them within 20 minutes, including those supposedly indestructible tiger-tested toys.

Level NINE Tuffie toy, less than half an hour after Daisy got it.

But this year a friend of ours, underestimating the hidden destructive tendencies within our little cutie, gave her a hollow plastic piggy. Not a good idea. It turned our mellowing Havachon back into rabid Destructo-Pup – it was like watching a pretty girl transform into a werewolf.

Unfortunately we didn’t discover this wild transformation until the piggy had been….well, brutalized. And partially devoured.

He's not half the piggy he used to be.... :<O

OUCH. That hadda hurt!

OUCH. That hadda hurt!

Poor thing never really stood a chance. ::sigh:: I guess you can never truly vanquish those Destructo-Pup demons. 😉

Monday Mischief: The Packaging is Always More Fun

Daisy has discovered what kids have always known: that packaging is always more fun than whatever was in the package. And the holidays gave her many opportunities to have some fun!

Her mischief secret – get hold of that fascinating stuff before anyone’s the wiser.

Hey Mommy! Lookee what I found in that box!

Monday Mischief: Daisy the Bag Lady

Aren’t our pets great at keeping things interesting! There’s never a dull moment and there’s always something new going on. 🙂

Daisy’s new pastime is being a bag lady. No, she doesn’t cart bags full of junk around with her; instead, she’s decided that whatever we bring home in a bag is fair game for her.

First she has to investigate…..

Ooo newcomers! Stand at attention in line so I can check you out.

You there! Do I smell meat??

This one definitely bears further investigation.

….then poke her head in and shove it around a bit (even if the bag is empty)….

Hey! Was there a roast chicken in this bag? Where'd it go? Maybe some juices spilled that I can lick up....

….and decide whether she approves of our purchases.

Ooo pink! Are these from the Victoria's Secret Invitation Party? Can I wear them too??

This game keeps her occupied until we empty the bags, except for the bag from the roast chicken that smelled sooo good. She pushed that one around for half an hour!
