Everyday Adventures in Havachon Heaven

The Good, Crazy, & Adorable Life of One Havachon Puppy

I’m…WHAT?!

Hello friends, Daisy here. I’m hijacking the blog for a good, well-deserved rant.

I went to the vet recently – no, strike that, I was taken against my will – for my annual “visit”. HAH! That’s no visit! When people visit my family, they don’t show up with needles, they don’t stick thermometers up each other, and they certainly don’t pull back each others lips to study their teeth. Not to mention some other less-than-social things that happen on this so-called vet “visit“.

It wasn’t bad enough that he gave me my annual shots (!), took my temperature (!!) and took my blood (!!!), but he poked and probed me in some very unwelcome ways. ::ahem:: I will spare you the details.

That's ME hiding under the chair in the vet's waiting room. It was no use...they found me anyway. :(

That’s ME hiding under the chair in the vet’s waiting room. It was no use…they found me anyway. 😦

The good news is that all the test results came back perfect. I am healthy. YAY!
BUT…there’s always the other side – he called me MIDDLE AGED!!
ME!
My family calls me “puppy” more than they call me “Daisy”! They always say “You’re the sweetest little puppy ever!” How can I be middle aged?!

I have one word for you, my dear vet.
RUDE.

Yeah. That’s right.
You call me middle aged? I call you RUDE.
R-U-D-E.

You may have saved my life when I was a baby.
You may have helped me through all my dangerous damages and awful illnesses.

But you do NOT, under any circumstances, call a girl “MIDDLE AGED”.
At least not to her face.

I need some serious cuddle time after being called middle aged! I'm only 5!

Daisy’s Moccasin Love

Our little girl has some…interesting…hobbies. Like herding her toys. Or barking at the wind. Or staring at absolutely nothing across the room. Or her favorite – showing her love for DD’s moccasins.

When she settles in with a moccasin, she’s in The Zone – a world of her own.

Oh yes, this one is just right.

Digging in...

And the award for the laziest puppy goes to…

Well, I’ll let you decide. According to Puppy Leaks, both the Bichon AND the Havanese are considered to be among the top ten couch potato dog breeds.

Daisy is a combination of BOTH Bichon and Havanese – she was practically bred for lounging!

Another website, Vet Street, calls the Bichon a “Lap Lounger Extraordinaire”, which is one of our favorite qualities of our favorite little girl. 🙂

So…

Love of Watermelon, Told In Pictures

I don’t think there’s any food or treat that Daisy likes better than watermelon.

One of our weekly mini-watermelons that Daisy considers to be her dessert bowl. :)

One of our weekly mini-watermelons that Daisy considers to be her dessert bowl. 🙂

When we cut one open, she recognizes the sound and comes flying into the kitchen, then fixates on it until we serve it up. She gets one little scoop from the middle, then after we’re done, she drinks the juice from the “watermelon bowl” and nibbles bits and pieces from the sides.

Is that my weekend watermelon up there?

After her feeding frenzy, she had a pink beard and mustache that just wouldn’t come out in a picture. But we all had a good laugh! 😀

Daisy Loves Herbert!

I fell behind with my blog visits this week – ACK!! Fortunately it’s all work related and nothing negative. Hopefully I can do more visiting today. 🙂 Meanwhile…

Even though Daisy had done some of her famous microsurgery on Herbert, the two of them are still thick as thieves.

We have no idea how this happened.

We have no idea how this happened.

But once they’re together, there’s no separating them.

We're settling in for the evening - you find your own place to relax.

And we sure don’t want to come between a dog and her snake!

You couldn't come between us even if you wanted to...

I can’t say I understand how Herbert ended up riding Daisy like a horse, but that’s how I found them and I just had to take pictures!

Daisy the Nursemaid

One of the many comforting things about having a pet is how empathetic they can be when we’re feeling sick or low.

Daisy’s quite the little nursemaid. Recently when DD was sick, she decided to lie on the sleeping bag on the floor – Daisy immediately snuggled up behind her and didn’t move until DD did. Part of her always has to be touching the person she’s with.

I won't leave DD until she feels all better!

I won’t leave DD until she feels all better!

If DD moved, Daisy checked on her and moved right along with her.

Daisy’s sympathetic expression coupled with the way she curls up with us and won’t leave our side always helps us smile, even during the most miserable times.

Daisy’s Self-Imprisonment

Well this is taking things to a new level, even for Daisy!

Our little pup loves being in small places, especially under our beds.

Like playing hide-and-seek under DD's bed

Playing hide-and-seek under DD’s bed

Or playing you-can't-see-me under my bed

Or playing you-can’t-see-me under my bed, one way…

...or the other.

…or the other.

But one day I discovered that the bed had a few sharp protrusions and I was concerned that Daisy might cut her back while army-crawling under there, so I put some storage bins underneath to block her. Oh yeah, that worked real well…

You can't outsmart me!

You can’t outsmart me!

Apparently the bins brought out the interior designer in her, and she’d shoved them around to make just enough space for herself in one corner at the end of the bed. There are no sharp protrusions there, but I didn’t know if she could make a pathway even farther back.

So I brought out the big guns, my final resort – the dreaded gate. Daisy’s been somewhat afraid of the gate since I took my fall over it; I think the loud sound it made when it hit the floor coupled with the loud scream I made when I hit the floor frightened her.

I placed the gate at the end of the bed to cover the open area she’d made, and it worked…for about three days…

The gate and I have struck a deal...you can't keep me out of here!

The gate and I have struck a deal. You can’t keep me out of here!

I surrender. Daisy can have her corner, even if it means she looks like she’s in prison. 🙂

Do you think Daisy looks like…

I think Daisy’s looking for a new career – lately she’s been doing her best impressions of an old-time movie star:

That’s Veronica Lake with her famous sultry wave-over-the-eye look.

And there’s Miss Daisy, doing her own now-famous ear-over-the-eye look!

Veronica Lake starred in primarily black-and-white movies, and Daisy is already gray and white, with touches of black. She fits right in! 😀

What do you think? Does Daisy have a future as a canine film noire star?

Happy Birthday Daisy!!

Yep, it’s official – Daisy turned FIVE on Friday! Yes, it was Friday the 13th, but for us, it’s a good luck day because that’s the day that our little sweetie was born. 😀

Daisy got big “good morning” greetings, and she actually seemed extra excited, as if she knew it was a special day. She jumped higher, romped, and did little ram-like jumps over absolutely nothing. 😀

Daisy loves over-the-shoulder hugs!

We started celebrating early with an extra long morning excursion out and about, despite the muddy grounds.

Daffodils should be shooting up in our flower garden, but instead we just have a muddy pool.

We couldn’t wait to give her her present – she de-stuffed poor Pinkie last week, but she loved him so much that we got her Pinkie’s little brother, Baby Blue.

Daisy didn’t let go of Baby Blue all day.

Since one of Daisy’s favorite things is paper bags, we put Baby Blue into a long paper bag, scrunched up the end, and turned her present-opening into a homemade “mental exercise” toy. She had a blast and it took her a little while to figure it out.

Daisy’s day was full of kisses, cuddles and mushies. I think she’s already looking forward to her next birthday!

Daisy gives lovies too!

Daisy Performs Microsurgery

When Daisy was a puppy, she thought it was her official duty to unstuff stuffed plush toys. It took her all of 10-20 minutes on even the supposedly toughest of the lot. And there were a LOT.

Now that she’s four years old, she’s got a little more respect for soft toys and they can last for months. However, Daisy has developed a new skill – she’s become a microsurgeon.

Now this won't hurt a bit...

Now this won’t hurt a bit…

She received her honorary title because where she used to cause total destruction, she now has targeted destruction with extremely minimal stuffing removal. How she chooses her targets, we don’t know, but clearly certain toys – and only certain toys – require very precise surgical skills. It’s almost like she just wants to see what’s inside, then leaves it there.

SpiderMan clearly required some microsurgery to his arm

Evidently SpiderMan required some microsurgery to his arm

And Pinky obviously had an issue that Dr. Daisy the microsurgeon was able to correct.

And Pinky obviously had an issue that Dr. Daisy the microsurgeon was able to correct.

But once in a while, major surgery is required, and Dr. Daisy steps up to the plate.

Pinky's ears must have been problematic, because both needed removal by Dr. Daisy.

I’m happy to report that all surgically altered toys are still smiling and happy and seem to have suffered no ill side effects from Dr. Daisy’s medical talents. Whatever will she think of next??
