Monday Mischief: Daisy Plans Mischief

Shhhh, don’t tell Daisy, but we think we’ve discovered her secret Mischief Planning Hideaway:

Hmmm, now let's see....if I grab the apple from the table while they're distracted....yeah, that just might work.

Hmmm, now let’s see….if I grab the apple from the table while they’re distracted….yeah, that just might work.

Ok, I'll have to position myself just right so I'll have that apple before they know I'm even in the room....

And then there’s the backup hideaway, in case we’re in the same room as Hideaway No. 1:

....so if I create a distraction here....then go for the apple there while they're cleaning up the distraction....

Monday Mischief: The Opportunist Havachon

The hurricane may have unnerved Daisy while it was here, but she certainly made up for lost time during the five-day blackout afterwards.

We had set up a bridge table with a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle in front of the fireplace during the blackout. To us it was a fun pastime; to a sneaky Havachon, it was 1,000 opportunities for mischief.

Who, me? Can’t you see how innocent I look?

During the light of day, we heard that unmistakable chewing sound coming from the area of the puzzle, which is nowhere near Daisy’s food bowl. DD called her over. Out from between the chairs and sofa came a head-down, slow-slinking pup – we knew that our dear marvelous, mischievous Daisy was back in action again.

As soon as DD approached her, she dropped what used to be a puzzle piece from her mouth. Now it’s garbage:

Destructo Pup turns her wrath on OUR toys!

I didn’t do it….it was dark…..it could have been anyone…….maybe they’re Daddy’s teeth marks….?

Early Monday Mischief: Mommy Was Born for Mischief!

We’re about to get hit hard with Hurricane Sandy – we’re in the epicenter geographically, so we’re posting on Sunday instead of Monday because there’s every chance we won’t have power for quite some time starting tonight or tomorrow. The storm is starting tonight (Sunday) and lasting through Wednesday morning – we’ve got a  long, scary road ahead of us! If you don’t see us online for a few days, it’s because this so-called “life-threatening Frankenstorm” has taken us down for a while. Good luck to any of our fellow bloggers who are also in the target area of the northeast!

Meanwhile, Daisy is hijacking the blog today.

Hi Blog Buddies! Daisy here. And I’m going to tell you a secret about Mommy today.

My mom really was born for mischief because she was born on Mischief Night! (Tuesday is her birthday, but she won’t let me tell you WHICH birthday it is! Heehee!) How could she doubt I would follow along?! I like to tell her that all my mischief is in honor of her birthday. 😉

Well, I guess her mischievous birthday isn’t really a secret, but did you know that sometimes she gets a mischievous little gleam in her eye? When I see that, I know something’s up, but I never know what it is until it happens.

Like the time she put that Halloween skirt on me.

You’re taking Havachon humiliation to a whole new level….

Or the time she made me wear the “spa bathrobe” after my bath.

This is ridiculous……

Or when she took a picture of me soaking wet after my bath – not a girl’s best look!

This is NOT my best look!

But I know she does these things in good fun, so I go along with it. After all, if I didn’t have a good sense of humor about it, I’d have chewed up her camera by now, right? 😉

Monday Mischief: Travel-Ready Puppy

I keep a couple of older suitcases to store seasonal clothes away in during off-season. I was just starting to put some summer clothes into one of them when I was called away. Look what I found when I came back – do you think Daisy is hinting that she’s ready for her next travel adventure?

Uh ohhh….am I allowed in here? It sure is cozy!

I can stay? Thanks Mom! I’ll just make myself nice and comfy.

This is my new favorite bed! And if there’s any traveling planned – well, I’m ready to go! 😀

And so am I, my little Daisy! I just may jump on in there with you – after all the craziness around here this summer, I think we’ve earned an adventure!

Monday NAUGHTY Mischief: Daisy’s Overmarking Her Turf!

Mischief is one thing – we laugh at it, take pictures of it, and marvel over how smart and funny our sweet puppy is. BUT – this isn’t funny mischief, it’s downright naughty mischief.

Daisy’s new breed of mischief is – she piddles when we first greet her, both in the morning and when we come home after being out. And it’s not one single “hey-you’re-home group piddle” either – she’s got a piddle saved for each of us.

I’ll save you any unnecessary photos of the piddle puddles she’s gifting us and just share this photo of a semi-remorseful Daisy (but not remorseful enough to stop!).

Don’t see a lot of remorse here? Neither do we – just a touch to get the sympathy vote.

It’s like she’s marking the spot where we say hello, wherever it may be. Of course, with this new behavior, we only say hello on tile floors now.

I can’t figure out why it started, and the only thing that it coincides with is the work being done in our kitchen. Can that figure into it?

Or could it be that the installation wasn’t going smoothly and we’ve been living in chaos for the past month? It’s a long story, but to cut to the chase, the wrong size cabinets were delivered for half of the kitchen, so we were on hold for 10-14 days until the new cabinets were made and shipped up from Virginia. So we had no stove, oven, or sink. And everything is still in chaos because I have the flu (a super early flu!) and can’t manage all that backbreaking work. All the stuff from the cabinets are in boxes all over the living room and the dining room table is loaded with things we need to use. Up until last week, the dining half of the kitchen had the disconnected stove and dishwasher against a wall, blocking traffic flow.

When I say things are in chaos, I’m not exaggerating. It’s miserable living like this. I’m wondering if it’s affecting Daisy, but why would she show it this way? She seems perfectly calm the rest of the time.

So we’re going back to basics using Jan Fennell‘s Amichien Bonding techniques. Her training techniques worked like a charm with Daisy when she was a stubborn puppy, so we have faith they’ll work again.

If anyone has any ideas as to why this naughty mischief is happening, we’d love to get some fresh perspectives!

Mommy’s Monday Mischief: Oh No She Didn’t!

But yes, she did.

Mommy used me as a mouse pad! Me, a perfectly good Havachon puppy. I kid you not.

I’m a dog, Mommy! I’m not a computer accessory!

On Thursday, the kitchen installers finally came back to install the right cabinets. We’ve been without a functional kitchen for 2 weeks now because of their measurement mistakes, and my family was getting quite put out about it.

Mommy set up her work computer in the family room, and she and I stayed in there with the doggy gate blocking the doorway so I couldn’t run through the sawdust or play with the installers. (I still don’t get that – it sounds like so much fun!)

They made SO much noise and they were right in the next room, so I could see them moving around. Well, how could I help but bark and complain? It’s my job!

Mommy knows that I’m comforted by lying on her lap, so she let me lie on her while she worked on her computer – that made me nice and calm and quiet. I thought she was multitasking – petting me while working – but then I heard a click-click-click sound….and it was coming from me!

She was working on her computer and using me as her mouse pad!

Hey, I thought you were petting me! What’s that thing you’re rolling around on my back?!

I think Mommy is the mischief maker this week, don’t you?

Monday Mischief: Daisy’s Gentle Reminder

It’s not really mischief I guess, but Daisy does have a new strategy. Whenever we eat something while sitting on the couch, Daisy has taken to “reminding” us that she’s right there and hoping for a hand-out. She puts her paw gently on us as if to say “Don’t forget to give me some!” It melts our hearts instantly.

I’m right here Mommy! And those sure do look yummy!

Maybe if I put my paw on your foot and give you my big puppy eyes, you’ll give me a lick of that nectarine…..

How can you resist me? Don’t you know that resistance is futile??

Monday Mischief: Aren’t I Fancy!

Lookee what I got to do this weekend -I’m wearing one of Mommy’s bracelets! I feel SO pretty! 😀

What’s this now? What’s this thing on my leg? Hmmm…it’s kinda pretty! I think I like it!

What do you think, Mommy? Do you like it too?

Oh yes, this is me alright. I feel like Cleopatra!

It’s true that Mommy put the bracelet on me when she saw that I liked it a lot, that wasn’t the mischievous part. But the next thing I did was – I liked it so much, I pretended to fall asleep so I could wear it longer! Heehee!

I’m getting ready to nap, Mommy. You wouldn’t want to disturb me by taking your bracelet back now!

Monday Mischief: My Family Reversed Mischief On Me!

Daisy here. And none too happy either.

My family did a reverse-mischief on me last week, and I didn’t like it one bit.

You know what they did? They made me look like a girly-girl.

Yes, that’s right. They actually made tough, trap-setting Destructo-Pup look like a sweet girly pup.

They took me to a professional groomer.  :<O grrrrr

Stop laughing, it’s not funny. My family usually grooms me themselves every week, but now that Dad’s right arm is still in a brace, he can’t hold me still while Mom cuts my nails, shaves my behind (::shudder::), and clips my face and paw hair.

I thought I was going to be livin’ easy with no grooming for the weeks that Dad would be in the brace, but instead they took me to the groomer.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I like the groomer and her boss very much. They always play with me and hold me on their laps after they pluck my ear hair – sometimes I even get to play with other pups – but I’ve never had to go for the “Full Monty” before. Bath, blow dry, hair cutting, paw trim, nails cut, face trimmed, butt shaved (::shudder::)…..okay, I went through it all (although they did notice how much I hate my paws being touched).

There I was, fluffy and sweet-smelling. Isn’t that good enough? Oh no – then they topped it all off by putting a bright pink flower on each ear and tying a rainbow heart bandanna around my neck! What kind of look is that for Destructo-Pup?!

THEN, if that’s not bad enough, my family oooooo’ed and ahhhhhhh’ed over me when they picked me up and then took pictures of me at home! I didn’t want to look at the camera – I didn’t want anyone to recognize me!

But I knew my mom would post pictures, so I beat her to it so I could tell my side of the story. (Mom and DD say I had those big pleading “Puss-n-Boots” eyes.) Here I am after the grooming -I did get those flowers off my ears 5 minutes later!

I will not look at the camera….

I said, I will NOT look at the camera! ::how humiliating::

How much longer is this going to go on?!

Ack! You caught me looking! Somebody get me out of these things!

Oh no, they’re talking about taking me in for another grooming!! And a special grooming for Christmas! What’s a pup to do?!
