Everyday Adventures in Havachon Heaven

The Good, Crazy, & Adorable Life of One Havachon Puppy

A Wonderful Dose of REALITY

The great Tibetan Terrier Princess of Reality,ย Zena, has honored us with the Reality Blog Award! Thank you Zena, you rock!!

The Reality Blog Award

The rules and instruction for this award are:

1) Visit and thank the blogger who nominated you.

2) Acknowledge that blogger on your blog and link back to them.

3) Answer the 5 simple questions. (see below)

4) Nominate up to 20 blogs for the award and notify each of them. (see below)

5) Display the award on your blog somewhere.

I’m turning the Q&A portion of this award over to Daisy – she’s really excited about answering these questions!

1) If you could change one thing, what would you change?

I’d change where my family keeps the treats – they’re completely out of my short little reach. I’d convince them to keep those treats on the floor where I could get at them…..umm, I mean, guard them.

2) If you could repeat an age, what would it be? any year?

Well I’ve only been around for 2 years, so I don’t have much to compare against! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I don’t think I’d trade this year for last year though, only because of all that training I had when I first came home. (That potty training went on forever!) Now I’m training them, so I think I’d repeat this year. ๐Ÿ™‚

3) What is one thing that really scares you?

One thing? Hmmm….it’s a tossup between vaccinations and loud noises. I guess because there’s more thunder, things dropped suddenly on floors, and construction (lately) than there are vaccinations, loud noises have to take first place. And those fireworks on New Years and July 4th – yikes!

4) What is one dream you have not completed, and do you think youโ€™ll be able to complete it?

My biggest dream is to be allowed to sleep on a bed with one of my family members, but I’m not allowed there. I don’t think I’ll be able to complete it – they’re pretty determined not to let me up there. Hmph.

5) If you could be someone else for one day, who would it be?

Somebody who sleeps in a big bed. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Nominations are tough because we love all our fellow bloggers and we know there are even more out there we’d love to get to know. So just this once, we’d like to pass this award on to anyone who’d enjoy receiving it – please feel free to take it and pass it along. ๐Ÿ™‚

An Inspiring Start to the Year!

What a great way to start the new year! Our friend Zena, the Tibetan Terrier Princess, has honored us with the Very Inspiring Blogger Award! Zena is an adorable and very smart pup who is helping to raise her new standard poodle sister, Raffles, after a devastating loss. Zena’s growth process from mourning to emerging into a stronger, more confident pup is truly inspiring.

The Very Inspiring Blogger Award

We may not be able to visit our blog buddies daily, but we love you all and thoroughly enjoy your blogs and your comments on our blog. You add extra sunshine to our day! ๐Ÿ˜€

Now to business – the Rules:

1] Link back to the person who nominated you

2] Post the award image on your page

3] Tell seven random facts about yourself

4] Nominate fifteen other blogs

Now to come up with seven more things about myself and/or Daisy…hmmmm……

1. DD and I are BIG Downton Abbey fans. If our friends were as into it as much as we are, we’d have hosted a Downton Season 3 premiere party with everyone in 1920’s dress!

2. We love playing backgammon, Pente, Scrabble, and other such games that have less to do with luck and more to do with strategy. Of course, drawing good Scrabble tiles or rolling good numbers in backgammon never hurts! ๐Ÿ˜‰

3. I love Americana art jigsaw puzzles. Americana art transports me to ideal small towns and simpler times, both of which I’d love.

4. Daisy’s hair is so curly and gets so thick in winter that she feels like a Berber carpet!

5. I love teapots, especially English-style teapots. I have ย small collection of full-sized teapots and a larger collection of miniature teapots.

6. I used to ride horses weekly and once was kicked in the thigh by a horse with bad aim. He was clearly angry at my horse but kicked me instead of his arch rival. I still have a silver-dollar-sized blood clot from that extraordinarily painful experience.

7. Daisy celebrates the dawn of each new day by racing around the house with her squeaky toy. She greets each of us, jumping up off the ground repeatedly, twirling around, and tap-tap-tapping those paws like a tap dancer on caffeine; then, as if the excitement is just too much to contain, she grabs a squeaky toy and races around with it, play-growling and biting the squeakers to make as much noise as possible. Forget New Years Eve celebrations – Daisy has a daily Dawn Of A New Day celebration!

Here are my 15 nominees – as usual, if you don’t have time to deal with awards, just consider this my way of introducing other bloggers to your site.

1. My Mini Pet Pig

2. Marking Our Territory

3.ย Clowie’s Corner

4.ย Christie Stratos’s writing site

5.ย Easy Weimaraner

Walkin’ on Sunshine!

We’ve just been honored with the Shine On award! Thank you so much to Christie Stratos, whose writing blog has so much to offer. Plus she’s created a fascinating new genre – Symbolic Experimentalism. I love writing that makes me think and can have many different interpretations. Check it out if you haven’t already!

To accept this award, I need to:

  1. Show appreciation of the blogger who nominated you and link back to them in your post – Done and Dusted!
  2. Add the award logo to your blog – Mission Accomplished!
  3. Share 7 things about yourself – hard part #1.
  4. Nominate 5 โ€“ 10 or so bloggers you admire – hard part #2; I admire all my blog buddies!
  5. Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know – easy peasy.

Okay, here goes. Seven more things to share about me/us:

1. I’m a Scorpio. I do have some of the traits, but I’ve got the more severe ones under control. ๐Ÿ˜‰

2. I always have my holiday shopping done early; this year I haven’t even started yet. YIKES!!

3. I always wanted to be a redhead. I have natural red highlights, but that’s as far as it goes.

4. We always know when it’s 9:00 PM because Daisy falls asleep at that time every single night.

5. I tend to be more of a literal sort of person. But I’m workin’ on it…..

6. DD and I just got hooked on Ballykissangel. Yet another BBC addiction!

7. We close out my birthday every year by watchingย Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein (since my birthday is on Mischief Night). It’s a tradition we all look forward to. ๐Ÿ™‚

And now for nominations. As usual, we’d like to nominate all our blog friends! And as always, if you don’t do awards, just accept this as our way of introducing you to other bloggers. Here are a few newer blog buddies we’d like to introduce:

1. Oldsunbird

2. One Blue Dog

3. The Lonely Dogs

4. A Writer’s Journey

5. Spilled Cookies

6. A Window Into the Woods

Hope you enjoy meeting these new blog friends! ๐Ÿ™‚

We Appreciate Readers!

Our new friend Zena, who writes The Princess Tails, has made our day with a new award!

Zena is a beautiful Tibetan Terrier whose blog is so much fun to read. She’s adjusting to the “only dog” life, and doing very well with the help of her loving family.

This award’s “requirements” sounded really formal, so we’re going to casualize (new word LOL) them:

1. Display the award logo on your post/page and/or sidebar.

2. Nominate 14 readers on your blog over a period of 7 days โ€“ this can be done at any rate during the week. It can be ALL on one day or a few on one day and a few on another day, etc. (combined #2 and #3, as they were similar)

Okey dokey – here they are. As usual, if you already have this award, then you’re doubly gifted! And if you don’t bother with awards or don’t have time for them, then just know that you’re very much appreciated in our little world. ๐Ÿ˜€

1. Live. Bark, Love

2. Snoopy’s Dog Blog

3. Basset Momma (please keep positive thoughts and prayers going for her dear hound, Freddie)

4. The Hailey Chronicles

5. Chancy the Gardner

6. Hey Look A Writer Fellow

7. Breathe Lighter

8. Clowie’s Corner

9. Old Sunbird

10. Fluffy Tufts

11.ย Fabulous Flo

12. Fostrickson

13. Dawson Dogs

14.ย Jaspers Doggy World

5. The Nominee shall make these rules, or amended rules keeping to the spirit of the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award, known to each reader s/he nominates.

Didn’t quite know how to make that casual….. ๐Ÿ˜‰

4. The Nominee must finish this sentence and post: โ€A Great reader isโ€ฆโ€

Ah, something new and different! Okay, here we go:

“A great reader is someone (or LOTS of someones!) you bond with from a distance because their comments show they really ‘get’ you.” ๐Ÿ™‚

We feel blessed to be blog buddies with so many “great readers”. We may only know each other through our writing, but we’re connected through our love of animals and care about each others victories and challenges.

Thank you for being part of our world!

A Wonderful Day!

One of our favorite blogging buddies, Meg Travels, made our day when she nominated us for not one, but TWO awards!

If you haven’t seen Meg’s travel blog, trust me, you’ll love it. Meg takes gorgeous photos of the places she visits – so good that we feel like we’ve been there too. And you’ll absolutely drool over the delectable foods she describes and photographs!

Meg so kindly awarded us both the One Lovely Blog Award and the Beautiful Blogger Award. Thank you so much Meg!

The One Lovely Blog award requirements are:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and link back to them in your post.
  • Share 7 things about yourself.
  • Nominate other bloggers you admire.
  • Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know.

Okay, here are a few facts about us:

1. DD has the most adorable collection of small stuffed snowmen that Daisy is just itching to get her teeth on.

2. Every member of our family plays or has played at least one musical instrument – except my father, who (ironically) is tone deaf.

3. I’d love to draw or paint, but even stick figures suffer at my hand. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

4. I dream of spending an inspirational week in an artsy community where I can focus on nothing but my writing, meeting other artsy people, and taking daily outdoor hikes/walks. And Starbucks. Plenty of Starbucks. ๐Ÿ™‚

5. I have a small collection of pressed glass Victorian toothpick holders. I think it’s fascinating that Victorians had a different piece of tableware for every possible type of food and use.

6. Visiting Italy and England are the top 2 destinations on my travel wishes….with an extended stay in Tuscany. And LOTS of memory cards for my camera!

7. ย I really hate all the ugliness and mudslinging in politics; it actually makes me uncomfortable. I also hate when “they” criticize female politicians’ clothes – what the heck does that have to do with the issues?! They certainly don’t criticize male politician’s shirts or ties!

The Beautiful Blogger Award requirements:

  • Copy the Beautiful Blogger Award logo and place it inย your post.
  • Thank the person who nominatedย you and create a link back to their blog.
  • Nominate 7 other bloggers for their own Beautiful Blogger Award.

We’re going to combine the nominations and introduce you to the following blogs. If you’re on the list and don’t like accepting awards, that’s fine, we just want other blogging friends to know about you! ๐Ÿ™‚

1. Dogs n Pawz

2. The Poodle And Dog Blog

3. Trifles

4. Clowie’s Corner

5. Puppy In Training

6. Long Life Cats and Dogs

7. Murray’s Mouth

Our lovely friend Misaki just passed another new award on to us too, and we’ll be thanking her with a “proper post” very soon! ๐Ÿ˜€

Poppy Says We’re On Fire!

Fluffy Popcorn, one of our favorite little blog buddy pups, has generously passed the Blog On Fire Award on to us – thank you so much little cutie! This tiny toy poodle has a lot of personality and a ton of cuteness in her small little self!

And now for the requirements: 8 unusual facts about ourselves….hmmmm, unusual? That’s a tough one, being that we’re not unusual people! How about a few facts we may not have mentioned before?

1. I’m not a summer person. I can’t stand heat over 80 degrees F or humidity (and we just had a 105 degree day with a heat index of 110!). The only things I love about summer are fresh fruits, veggies, and flowers. Give me a place with year-round fall and I’ll move there!

2. If we could, we’d live off our own garden completely to avoid the toxins in commercial meats and produce.

3. I’m most happy puttering in the garden, hiking in the woods, discovering interesting small towns, or tucked under some blankets while watching an old movie on a cold winter day. Or coming in from the snow and warming up with hot chocolate. The ultimate is doing all of this with my little family.

4. I love fall/winter clothes. I love their rich colors, their warmth and softness, and their look, and I love being bundled up in them.

5. My dream is to have a small, Kinkade-esque cottage near a rambling stream surrounded by wildflowers with herb and veggie gardens outside the back kitchen door (similar to Colonial kitchen gardens). Its interior would be bright, happy and charming and it would be a short walk from an artsy town center with a couple of al fresco cafes. ย (I’ve actually sketched out the floor plan for the cottage – a modified version of a hundred-year-old ย home-turned-shop I’ve been in. It does include a walk-in fireplace in the open living room!) Not too idealistic, ya think?

6. Daisy screeches when the doorbell rings. Not barks – ear-piercing screeches intermingled with insistent whining. Sounds like she’s being stuck by pins rather than announcing a visitor!

7. I love antiques, but I have a fondness for pressed glass Victorian toothpick holders. I’m always amazed at how the Victorians had a specific item for every single need at the table, and these little gems really captivate me. I have a small collection of them and use them as miniature vases for small garden flowers or flowers from bouquets that outlive the rest.

8. I love 19th century literature, and Jane Austen is my guilty pleasure. I’m savoring every word of Mansfield Park right now. (And DD and I are BIG Downton Abbey fans!)

And now for 8 blogs to pass the award on to. If you’re on this list but not interested in awards, just consider this our way of introducing our friends to you!

1. Peace With My Life

2. Snoopy’s Dog Blog

3. Doggy’s Style

4. The Adventures of Little Miss Red Maple Leaf

5. Bassett Momma

6. Hey….Its Jet Here

7. Alfie’s Blog

8. Hutch A Good Life

Thank you Poppy! ๐Ÿ˜€

One Lovely Blog Award

I can’t tell you how happy Scriptor Obscura made us this weekend when we (uncharacteristically) went online and discovered that Scriptor honored us with the One Lovely Blog Award!

Thanks so much, Scriptor! If you haven’t visited her site, take a moment and have a look – the fresh perspective of her creative writing and poetry is definitely worth your time. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love this award because its purpose is simply to recognize the efforts of fellow bloggers and to let them know that their work is appreciated. Well, I can truly say I appreciate every single blogging buddy we’ve come to know over the past year and a half since we’ve been on WP. Your comments brighten each day. ๐Ÿ™‚

There’s no limit to how many people this award can be passed on to. So, in no particular order (we love and value you all!), I’d like to pass this award on to those who take the time to read and comment regularly – we LOVE your visits and comments!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Chancy the Gardner

We also sincerely appreciate all our followers who don’t have time to comment and those who comment regularly but don’t bother with awards (like Granny1947 and The Hook) – if any of you would like this award, feel free to take it! We’d have named you, but we don’t know who you are…. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Happy day to everyone!

We’re So Honored! :)

Many thanks to our blogging buddies Oscar and Paulineย and Green Dog Love Blog for nominating us for the Versatile Blogger Award! You made our day! ๐Ÿ˜€

Thank you so much for honoring my silliness! ๐Ÿ™‚

So, to continue the tradition, we’ve linked back to both (along with our sincere thanks!), and now we’ll share seven facts about us and pass on the award.

Fact 1. Daisy’s new favorite “toy” is the little round cap that covers the bolt at the base of the toilet. (Might as well start off with the most embarrassing one, right?) She’s chosen one in particular as her target, and now it’s got teeth marks all over it. ::sigh:: Gotta remember to keep that bathroom door closed at all times!

Fact 2. We love British television. Yes, we’re Yanks, but we’re really captivated by a number of Britcoms and the way the Brits bring 19th century books to life (I love 19th century books). Sometimes we plan entire evenings around a good British show. ::blushing:: We find it hysterical that so many Britcom characters talk about their favorite TV shows being American!

Fact 3. Daisy tries to catch butterflies and bugs through the glass door. She still doesn’t understand that if there’s thick glass between her and the flying creature outside, she’s not going to win.

Fact 4. We’re foodies. Big time. We love trying new foods, new restaurants, and new recipes. In fact, I was a restaurant reviewer for a number of years.

Fact 5. One of Daisy’s nicknames – at times – is “Lunatic”. But it’s said with love and always in the midst of a big laugh. ๐Ÿ™‚

Fact 6. We love love love books. All kinds of books. Contemporary, 19th-18th-17th century and beyond (DD is big into Shakespeare’s original language), fiction, nonfiction, and memoir. We cross all genres. You name it, we read it. And no matter how boring a book may be, once I start it, I have to finish it. Inevitably I’ll pick up some gems in even the dullest literature.

Fact 7. Daisy hates putting her harness on. She gets all excited when she sees it or the leash, but we have to chase her around before getting her to stay still long enough to get the darned thing on her. It’s a struggle, believe me. Once it’s on, she’s all happy and excited again!

Okay, so if you’re still with me after all that, here are our nominations for Versatile Blogger Award (in no particular order):

Granny1947 – a lovely woman who looks at life with a great sense of humor
Passionate About Pets – real quality blogging, great stories, beautiful photos
Happy Bark Days – I know she’s already received several nominations, but Miss Maple is so darned adorable and the blog is just so well written, I had to add another
Live, Bark, Love – great blogging about great dogs with great photos
According to Gus – fabulous dog blog; it offers too much to even list here!
Snoopy’s Dogblog – one of the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet; he melts our hearts
The Hook – not a dog blog, but lots of really funny behind-the-scenes hotel stories
Roxy the Traveling Dog – a new blogging buddy with a really interesting and versatile blog
Chancy the Gardener – lots of personality in fun blog posts!

Living the Wheat Free Life – this is a fabulous, upbeat blog that’s helpful for anyone who has wheat or gluten allergies or has celiac disease – and very helpful for the people who cook for them.

I hope I didn’t miss anyone! ย I guess I’m not supposed to re-nominate Oscah Baby or Green Dog Love Blog, but they’re certainly among our favorites too! Thanks again! ๐Ÿ™‚
