Everyday Adventures in Havachon Heaven

The Good, Crazy, & Adorable Life of One Havachon Puppy

Do you think Daisy looks like…

I think Daisy’s looking for a new career – lately she’s been doing her best impressions of an old-time movie star:

That’s Veronica Lake with her famous sultry wave-over-the-eye look.

And there’s Miss Daisy, doing her own now-famous ear-over-the-eye look!

Veronica Lake starred in primarily black-and-white movies, and Daisy is already gray and white, with touches of black. She fits right in! 😀

What do you think? Does Daisy have a future as a canine film noire star?

Daisy Performs Microsurgery

When Daisy was a puppy, she thought it was her official duty to unstuff stuffed plush toys. It took her all of 10-20 minutes on even the supposedly toughest of the lot. And there were a LOT.

Now that she’s four years old, she’s got a little more respect for soft toys and they can last for months. However, Daisy has developed a new skill – she’s become a microsurgeon.

Now this won't hurt a bit...

Now this won’t hurt a bit…

She received her honorary title because where she used to cause total destruction, she now has targeted destruction with extremely minimal stuffing removal. How she chooses her targets, we don’t know, but clearly certain toys – and only certain toys – require very precise surgical skills. It’s almost like she just wants to see what’s inside, then leaves it there.

SpiderMan clearly required some microsurgery to his arm

Evidently SpiderMan required some microsurgery to his arm

And Pinky obviously had an issue that Dr. Daisy the microsurgeon was able to correct.

And Pinky obviously had an issue that Dr. Daisy the microsurgeon was able to correct.

But once in a while, major surgery is required, and Dr. Daisy steps up to the plate.

Pinky's ears must have been problematic, because both needed removal by Dr. Daisy.

I’m happy to report that all surgically altered toys are still smiling and happy and seem to have suffered no ill side effects from Dr. Daisy’s medical talents. Whatever will she think of next??

Daisy Goes Indoor Camping

After my back injury last year, we had to put a sleeping bag on the floor with a thick piece of foam under it. At first I had to lie on them all day long, then sporadically, and now I only use them to do my back strengthening exercises and for the occasional times when I have pain that can only be helped by an hour or so on the floor.

But Daisy has different ideas. This has become her favorite place to rest, like her own personal campground. She gets pretty annoyed when I need to take over her space!

Now I know why you’re down here every day – this is comfy!

Oooo, snuggly warm!

Daisy’s Thrilling Little Car Ride

When we take Daisy out anywhere – even if it’s relatively close by – we always secure her safely in the back seat with her car harness, and we have the car seat protected with a special dog cover. That thing is invaluable – my back seat still looks like new, even though we’ve had a muddy, wet, and/or snow-covered pup back there many times over the past four years!

Lots of time to catch up on my naps back here!

Lots of time to catch up on my naps back here!

But if I’m just pulling the car up the driveway and into the garage, I let Daisy sit in the front seat next to me. She absolutely LOVES that and has no problem transitioning back to the back seat for the next outing.

I'm a big girl! :D

Princess Daisy, or, How Surgery Spoiled This Dog

We think Daisy has become a Princess Puppy – she disagrees.
We say that surgery spoiled her, she says it didn’t.
She thinks she’s entitled to a softer life of entitlement because of all she’s been through.
We say it’s time she stands on her own 3-soon-to-become-4 paws and start acting like a dog again.

So we’re taking our case to the most fair court in the world – the Court of Blogging Buddies.

You, our blogging friends, are our judge and jury. We are officially filing our case with you.

IN THE COURT OF FAIR PLAY

FAMILY – Plaintiff

v

DAISY THE HAVACHON – Defendant

* * * * *
         CASE NO. 001-The-First-Of-Many
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

COMPLAINT

STATEMENT OF CLAIM
“Family”, both individually and combined, claimants herein, hereby file this claim against the above-named defendant and in support thereof states as follows:

FACTS
1. Daisy had to be given medication 3 times a day, camouflaged in pureed beef baby food, peanut butter, or cream cheese. This spoiled her into refusing to eat her kibble unless it was mixed with pureed beef baby food or rice.

2. Daisy couldn’t sit upright or stand for several days, so we had to feed her little amounts at a time of said kibble/baby food combination on a spoon and give her water her favorite way – via the guinea pig water bottle. This resulted in her refusing water in a bowl now that she’s sitting and standing up and refusing food unless it’s hand-fed to her.

3. Daisy couldn’t go potty on her own, so we had to carry her over to a wee-wee pad and support her back end so she could go. We never knew when she needed to go, so we took her several times a day, resulting in many sore backs. The result – now that we can walk her on a leash around the house, she drops and pees whenever and wherever she wants, despite the fact that we still put her on the wee-wee pad throughout the day AND we have wee-wee pads placed at strategic locations on her “walking path”. And she pees up a LAKE.

THEREFORE, we ask our blogging judges to rule – has surgery spoiled our Daisy and turned her into a Puppy Princess?

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I beseech you....

Faceless Puppy – The Chill of Fall!

We’re celebrating the passing of our humid, miserable summer and the start of a beautiful fall with crisp air and gorgeous leaves that energize puppies and humans alike! LOL – you can’t tell that I love fall and cooler temps, can you? 😉

On these lovely fall mornings, I have to drink my coffee quicker than usual because it cools off pretty quickly. Mornings in the house are quite cool, but I refuse to turn the heat on until October. Mid-October, hopefully! Besides, the sun and low 70 degree afternoon temps warm us up enough a little later in the day – that’s what layers are for! 🙂

Daisy’s thick double coat keeps her warm, but today it seemed she wanted the help of her favorite fuzzy blanket to take the chill off her nose….and face….

Hey, it's cold in here!

Hey, it’s chilly in here!

I know my nose is supposed to be cold, but this is ridiculous!

I know my nose is supposed to be cold, but this is too much!

Hope you’re all having a beautiful fall too!

Waiting……

Daisy is a true family dog. And she wants the whole family to be together at all times.

We noticed this at first when she was very young and would wait by the door for whoever left to return. She looked pretty sad with her back all hunched, until she finally realized they would eventually come back!

Daisy waiting

A very young Daisy waiting by the garage door. Yes, DD will be back soon, little one!

If one of us takes a nap or sleeps later than the others, this still really bugs Daisy.

If you, as the sleeping beauty, want to keep on sleeping, you better make sure your door is closed – tightly. Because Daisy will push her way in and grumble and whine until you get up just to silence her.

Last December, DD had a really nasty cold and stayed home from work. She slept nice and late, much to Daisy’s dismay:

Daisy at 7 AM.... "Where are you, DD?"

Daisy at 7 AM…. “Where are you, DD?”

Daisy at 8 AM - Seriously, this photo was taken an HOUR later! She hadn't moved a muscle.

And this is what happened when DH took a rare nap one Sunday afternoon:

Daddy? Why are you napping? When are you coming out to play with me?

Notice a pattern here? 🙂

Mischief Monday: THIEF!

The heat wave here in the northeast has us indoors more than any winter weather we can remember (not counting the hurricane, of course!). Temps in our area are over 100 and the humidity is so high that the heat index registers 115. That’s just not right. Florida has been cooler than this!

We’re only about half an hour from the beach, but people on the beach are actually burning their feet on the sand and ending up going to area hospitals with blisters on the soles of their feet. It’s crazy!

Daisy wants no part of the heat. She doesn’t even like temps in the 80s, let alone this steam bath we’re in. When I open the door to take her out and that blast of heat hits her, she balks like a stubborn mule and I can’t budge her. Now she’s upped the ante and runs under the bed when she sees me getting her harness and leash out! We have a walking date with a friend and her dog next week, which I made for 9 AM so hopefully we won’t melt. Also hopefully this heat wave will break and Daisy will drop her stubborn routine. Whoever heard of a dog not wanting to go out?!

Meanwhile, our container veggies didn’t do so well this year. I think it was either the brand of seeds we used or that too many seeds took and the overcrowding didn’t allow them to produce fruit, but this thief – who clearly thinks he’s a rabbit – didn’t know there weren’t any carrots beneath the lush greenery and was sizing up his attack:

squirrel carrot thief

Those carrot tops are over a foot tall now, and still no carrots can be found beneath the surface. Just roots. Oh well, hopefully next year’s crop with a different brand of seeds and more spacing will be better (though this was never a problem before). Now that the trees are gone and our yard is sunny – TOO sunny, in fact, because with this intense heat I have to keep all the blinds closed in the back of the house since we have no shade anymore – we’ll probably try to put in a real veggie patch next year.

I'll just stay in here and watch everyone else sweat, thank you very much.

Daisy’s Favorite Work Station

Daisy loves work. She loves computers. She loves them because when DD works from home once a week, Daisy has an easy time mushying her way into DD’s lap. All she has to do is put that teddy bear face on, and DD’s a goner.

Look! There's a new email!

Look! There’s a new email!

Daisy can get a couple of hours of lap time on a particularly good day (ie, a day when DD is particularly susceptible to Daisy’s charms).

You dictate, I'll type.

And other times it’s all about the cuddling, which can make any Havachon nice and sleepy.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I don’t know who’s happier, Daisy or DD! 😀
