Everyday Adventures in Havachon Heaven

The Good, Crazy, & Adorable Life of One Havachon Puppy

The Beautiful Blizzard of 2016

on February 4, 2016

I know we’re in the minority, but we’ve been so disappointed with the unseasonably warm temps this winter. Looking out of our windows on Christmas day and seeing our grass greener and healthier than it was all summer was not a welcome sight to us. Seeing the daffodils shoot up through the ground in January was just wrong.

But the beautiful blizzard made up for it all – with gusto! It started snowing four hours earlier than predicted; that storm blew in at 8 PM on Friday night and went straight through Sunday morning! Saturday was incredible with wild winds and tons of snow – we got 2 feet and drifts of over 4 feet! And I must say, it was a very considerate storm to start after everyone was home from work and end in plenty of time for everyone to shovel out on Sunday! 🙂

Here’s the view from our back door, you can see how deep the snow is outside. We still haven’t been able to open that door! And here’s Daisy in her new winter coat!

View from the back door...yeah, it's kinda deep...

Can we go out this way Mommy? It's way over my head, but I'll just burrow through like a gopher!

We resurrected Daisy’s Winter Pee Patch – this will give you an idea of how high some of the snow was – other drifts were even higher!

Thanks for the nice high wall, I have lots of Pee Patch privacy now! :)

We had a huge snow overhang off the roof that looked like an avalanche waiting to happen and an icicle that got longer and longer every day:

That icicle is over 3 feet long!

That Sunday closed with a beautiful winter sunset, complete with tree silhouettes:

And our little sweetie wrapped up her day in one of her favorite ways – a good cuddle with a good friend:

The snow was fun, but it's great to be warm and cozy inside. :)

  1. wow Daisy you need such a snorkel-thingy to walk through that snow ! and that icicle is a walking stick for a giant :o)

  2. Here in Maryland in my neighborhood, we aren’t allowed to have dogs that weigh more than 30 pounds, so all the local dogs are small. They ended up being very confused when being walked because their usual stops were nowhere to be found. Heck, Baby Girl and our minipoo, Flash, didn’t want to pee on the pee patch created for their use since it isn’t on their usual itinerary. Thankfully, warm temps have hastened the melt of the 30+ inches of snow on the ground, and the area dogs are beginning to recognize familiar terrain once again.

You’re right, Anita, Daisy doesn’t like her favorite spots being buried out of sniffing range either. It can take her a lot longer to do what needs to be done, and sometimes she just isn’t interested…which is when we confine her to a room with easy-to-clean carpeting and spread wee-wee pads all over it! It must be nice to live in a neighborhood with all small dogs!

  3. Mary says:

Holy cow!! So much snow. How is Daisy doing?

    • raisingdaisy says:

She’s doing extremely well, Mary, thanks for asking! We had our final follow-up with the neurosurgeon and she couldn’t believe the progress Daisy had made. She cut out the last two weeks of crate rest and gave her back her freedom. 🙂

  4. Must be wild being a small pup with the snow piled high above your head – the whole world literally buried from your perspective.

I think of that too – I can’t imagine looking at snow that’s towering over my head! One time Daisy was walking on frozen snow (a favorite thing of hers) and she hit a soft spot and fell in. It was about a foot over her head and she did NOT like that at all!

We keep our snow up in the mountains. When we drive up there the Poodles stay in the car. Yes, we are wimps but we are glad people who like snow get to have it.

We got totally hosed on that storm, only ending up with about 4 or 5 inches. I’m with you, it’s winter and I want cold and snow! Why this morning when I got up it was 54 degrees out. At 5:45 AM on February 3rd!! I walked Delilah is shirtsleeves and sandals. There is something wrong with that!!

Sophie looks adorable in her coat, does she love the snow like you?

Thank you for joining the blog hop. 🙂

Ack! That happened to us with another storm – big snow promises, no delivery. So disappointing! Daisy doesn’t like the deep snow (obviously, since she disappears in it!) but she does like walking on it once it’s frozen over. We had another full day of rain today and all I could think was what a beautiful snow it would have been had the temps been normal February temps.

  7. Becky says:

Daisy looks great! Hope she’s feeling as well as she looks. 🙂

  8. Mags says:

You didn’t get snow, you got SNOW :). Sweet Daisy didn’t seem to mind going out with all that snow way higher than her. I have never seen an icicle that long. I love a pretty snow but I would not have a clue what to do with that much of it. I am happy for you that you finally got some snow. Love, hugs and nose kisses

  9. Cupcake says:

You look so strong and healthy, D. Yay! I love your coat. You are flat-out a slave to fashion. The snow was also a foot over my head at its worst. Mom made me an “area” while we waited for the snowblower guys to make pathways for us.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

    • raisingdaisy says:

Thank you, Cupcake, I’m feeling like a puppy again! I like my new coat better than my old coat – this one has fake fur inside so it’s warmer, and it’s also bigger so it’s not hard getting into and out of. My old coat was red and I thought that made me look like a boy, but this one is a much softer color and I think it goes well with my white and gray, don’t you?

  10. Jan K says:

It’s so good to see Daisy looking good in her coat, and enjoying the snow (privacy). That storm stayed south of us, and right now we are down to just small patches of snow (and ice….ugh) in the yard. We could’ve taken that blizzard too! Maybe next week they’re saying we might get some snow.

  11. We are so jealous. We live near Detroit and have barely had ANY measurable snow so far this season. That is super unusual. That means we will either have a blizzard in June or it will be 100 degrees all summer DakotasDen

    • raisingdaisy says:

I’m worried about having a triple-digit summer too – we’ve had too many 50 degree days this winter. Even today, after getting another 5″ of snow on Friday, it’s going to hit 49 degrees. That’s just not right for early February!

  12. Wow you sure got a ton. The pictures are fabulous. I guess Daisy is doing well and did OK with all that snow. Thanks so much for sharing on the hop.

    • raisingdaisy says:

Yes Daisy is doing very well! She used the Pee Patch but had no interest in going anywhere else while the snow was deep. As soon as it formed an ice crust, she enjoyed walking on top of it – she likes being Queen of the Mountain! 🙂

  13. What a lot of snow! Whee hope you stay safe and warm!

  14. Misaki says:

WOW! Look at all that lovely snow!!!

  15. Glad you got your snow 🙂 Happy Valentine’s Day!!!! Hope you had a day filled with those you love!

    • raisingdaisy says:

Hey there Marty, and thanks – hope your Valentine’s Day was wonderful too! We got several more snows after the blizzard, but only 5 or so inches at a time. Winter is making up for being such a wuss early on LOL!! 😉
