Everyday Adventures in Havachon Heaven

The Good, Crazy, & Adorable Life of One Havachon Puppy

Lunch with a Deer Friend

This summer has brought more than its usual number of beautiful visitors to our yard – loads of different hummingbirds…

…some butterflies and HUGE moths…

This is actually called a HUMMINGBIRD MOTH!!

…and dragonflies like this guy, who actually patrols the yard with his huge buddies, going back and forth for hours like flying soldiers. (Does anyone know why they do this??) This smaller one finally went AWOL and took a break:

But the real treat this week was this majestic guy, who stayed for at least ten minutes lunching on all the fallen crab apples. I hope he bookmarks our yard in his GPS and comes back again! 😀

What a beauty!

Loving those antlers!

You can see the green apple in the back of his mouth! He'd bite down, half would fly out, he'd eat the other half, then go back for the rest. So cool!

Once he'd finished every last apple on the ground, he gracefully took off and looked for more fertile fields.

But the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence, and he found no apples there. So he planned his strategy and took off like a rocket.

And what was Daisy doing?

I don't have to hunt for apples, I have my dinner delivered, thank you. zzzzzZZZZZ

The Daisy Runway

Daisy is a nut. A lovable, adorable, sweet little nut. We call her our little peanut.

But sometimes her nuttiness is dangerous to her, like when she charges at full speed across the kitchen floor and only puts the brakes on an inch away from the door frame or refrigerator, causing her entire body to crash into it with a bang.

Her nuttiness was also the cause of her severe ACL/meniscus tear, when she jumped off a chair with such crazy excitement that she landed wrong and ended up in a world of pain…and in surgery.

Ack! Keep those cold germs to yourself, please!!

Ack! I don’t ever want to go through that again!

So now we don’t let her jump off the furniture, we carry her off with us. She seems to like that. And we watch out for other ways she can hurt herself, like her flying slide across the kitchen floor.

The solution – we put a long runner down across the kitchen floor, connecting the carpeted living room and family room. It may look odd, but now there’s no more slipping and sliding and Daisy seems to love it. 🙂 And hopefully we’ve avoided yet another emergency surgery.

Long runway, little Daisy. :)

I love my soft runway!

I love my soft runway!

It may not be orthodox in placement – I can’t say I’ve ever seen a home with a carpet runner across the kitchen – but it’s a whole lot safer for our little speed demon, so it’s staying. 🙂

Love of Watermelon, Told In Pictures

I don’t think there’s any food or treat that Daisy likes better than watermelon.

One of our weekly mini-watermelons that Daisy considers to be her dessert bowl. :)

When we cut one open, she recognizes the sound and comes flying into the kitchen, then fixates on it until we serve it up. She gets one little scoop from the middle, then after we’re done, she drinks the juice from the “watermelon bowl” and nibbles bits and pieces from the sides.

Is that my weekend watermelon up there?

Oh watermelon, watermelon, I worship you from afar...

You still there?

Stop taking pictures and eat it already so I can have my lickies!

After her feeding frenzy, she had a pink beard and mustache that just wouldn’t come out in a picture. But we all had a good laugh! 😀
