Monday Mischief: Daisy’s Double Ears!

on August 4, 2014

I always say there’s a silver lining to just about everything if you look for it….and we found the silver lining to Daisy’s ear allergies.

Daisy has a double coat, and her ears have thick layers of hair. After the oily allergy treatments in her ears, the hair was all separated and icky. We double-bathed her ear flaps with every bath, but still her hair never went back to the thick, flowing locks she had.

And then we realized why when, after one bath, her two ears turned into four….

Hey! Where'd these two extra ears come from?!

Hey! Where’d these two extra ears come from?!

Upon closer examination, we discovered that those two “extra ears” were actually solid hair mats, and her tiny little ears were buried deep within them.

So out came the grooming trimmer, a safe way to trim away the excess with no risk of cutting her skin, and off came the extra “ears” in solid mats:

Any dog out there need extra ears???

Any dog out there need extra ears???

And suddenly Daisy went from this:

What we thought were thick, lustrous ears....

What we thought were thick, lustrous ears….

To this:

The little face we can't resist, now with little ears to match!

The little face we can’t resist, now with little ears to match!

We’re keeping those little ears trimmed so there are no more double ear buildups! Who knew?!

Haha Daisy, I nearly didn’t recognize you! I think you look better with the single ears! 🙂

    I hope you’re having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

OMG, OMG, I can’t decide what to think about this! On the one hand, you prevented Daisy from being the world’s first flying Havanchon. She would have need only a few weeks to develop her helicopter rotors and fly on the couch with them! On the other hand, she looks as a puppy again. Either you discovered the secret of eternal youth or you accidentally picked a puppy pic of Daisy.

LOL!! If they would have helped her fly onto the couch, we definitely would have left them!! 😀 Yep, Miss Little Ears now looks more like a puppy again. We like her ears both ways, but with the trimmed ears she scratches them less, so I guess the mats were bothering her sometimes. Puppy ears are here to stay! 🙂

  3. aww 4 ears are great.. you can even hear the silent things with such a cool equipment… and you look great! just saying :o)

Hahaha! I think if they had gone back to those flowing ears, my family would have left the extra hair. But I did look kinda silly with those extra flaps sticking out! 🙂

The look on her face in the second pic!!!!! I think she misses the extra ears.

That last photo is too stinking cute! But Daisy also pulls off the rastafarian look quite well.

  6. Wow! She looks so cute without all that puff. I don’t think she even knows what to think with all that weight gone from her ears!

The bouffant look is cute, but a little dated. Wasn’t that the style when women wore big hair?

  8. Barbara says:

Daisy looks even cuter (if that’s possible) with her ears trimmed!

  9. I had to laugh at the double ears. I bet Daisy will be more comfortable now.

  10. Novroz says:

I think she looks cuter with small ears 🙂

  11. That four ears photo is cute! Interesting how easily the hair can mat around the ears. Pierson’s does the same and he has totally different fur. I imagine it is because I scratch him behind the ears so much that perhaps I contribute to the tangling. Don’t worry, so long as I keep an eye out for it, Pierson is still going to get plenty of ear scratching. 🙂

The weird thing is that these mats were actually the top layer – her actual ears were underneath! I can only imagine this happened because of all the rolling around she does, and maybe her scratching contributed too. Brushing her ears will be much easier now that they’re not so overly thick!

Ha, Daisy, that must have been confusing! Glad you have it all sorted out and you look great.

  13. Yeah! Less ear weight, less problems! That is what I have to do with Anne too. For some reason her ears have twice as much hair on them as Abbe’s. She comes from the groomer and I have to debulk them every time. Sweet Daisy you do look like a little puppy again my dear!

  14. This is just so funny, but yes, how would you know? She looks even cuter, if that could be possible, with the little ears. She looks like a sweet little puppy. I hope this new look also helps her with those nasty ear problems. You are so handy with those clippers, too! 🙂

  15. Marcie says:

I bet she feels so much better now. 🙂

I’m glad that you got that straightened out – of course she’s cute no matter what!
