No, Daisy didn’t take cake off the table 😉 …..not this time, anyway!
Do you hate those unwanted telemarketing calls as much as I do? I have our numbers on the Do Not Call registry, but it expired and even though I re-registered us, some calls are slipping through.
But today I got the best one of all. I picked up the phone to be greeted by that annoying silence where you know the auto-dialer has you in a queue. This is because the telemarketer’s time is more important than yours, you see, and his call to you is SO important that they actually expect you to sit on the line waiting to hear his pitch that will just rock your world.
Because we’ve been having some phone difficulties since the storm, including delayed connections, I waited today. I usually don’t. I had picked up a phone with no Caller ID. (Lesson to self: Never pick up a phone without checking Caller ID first….)
So the guy comes on and says, “Hello. Is this the person to whom I am speaking?”
Seriously???!!! Who else would it be – the person to whom you are NOT speaking?? Isn’t that an old joke from the Milton Berle days??
I guess I should be glad that he understood the use of the word “whom”…. 😉
LOL I was thinking about the use of “whom” too. Telemarketers drive me nuts. We are registered so usually just the fully automated calls get through here.
Cute picture of Daisy!
And even worse than the typical telemarketing calls are the ones that have recorded messages, like the political auto-calls. You come home and find a string of recorded messages on your voice mail – so annoying!
I agree, telemarketing calls are the worst. Make sure you get your name back on the “Do not call’ list soon:)
We had already re-registered on the Do Not Call list, but it takes a couple of months before the calls stop. 😦 Good to see you again – hope Tiffy’s doing well!
Hilarious – the brain-dead telemarketer.
Cute beyond words – Daisy.
LOL I knew you’d appreciate the stupidity of those calls, Hook! 😉
I think we must get those calls too, cos when the phone rings most of the time nothing happens!! No-one even moves, it goes to voicemail and then once in a while someone comes rushing to the phone as I think it’s someone they want to speak to that they can hear leaving a message! I run with them too, well, it could be for me?! 🙂
It’s only the doorbell in my house that warrants any excitement…… 🙂
Have a fun and hopefully quiet day,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
LOL I beat my family to the door every time! 😀
Gah, I hate telemarketers too! I’m lucky to avoid them on my cell phone, but they call our office all the time. So annoying!
I guess they just don’t understand how annoying they are. It’s so hard for me to believe that there are enough people buying their services to make it a worthwhile job!
The last time I had a home phone I got a string of calls from bill collectors looking for the person who last had that phone number. I’d patiently wait and explain to them that they had the wrong number and to please not call again. Fat lot of good THAT did. Now I carry only my cell phone.
LOL Oh geez, that’s even worse!
Oh, telemarketers are number one on our list of dislikes. Is this the person to whom I am speaking…OKAY??? Is he serious? lol We get one every now and then that tells us if we are not so-in-so we should not listen to the message and hang up now. But if we are so-in-so we need to listen to the very important message. We don’t answer these calls but get them on the answering machine.
Caller ID and an answering machine two things I never like to be without. Cute picture! Hugs and nose kisses
My question is – who do they honestly think is listening to their inane calls???!!
Hi RD…I get annoyed when they come on and address me by my first name.
I don’t know you pal…get lost.
YES! I hate that too. Some of them try to be all buddy-buddy asking, “How are you today?” I want to punch them right through the phone – who do they think they’re kidding??
I do hear you loud and clear, but I was told that those telemarketers have a job, a job they might be doing because they can’t find other work. I did it for awhile, and I hated it. But I decided that to be nice to all of them as it was a very hard job-but now I get to do Security and I enjoy it much more than that. I don’t blame you for how you feel though. Great topic!!
I think there are two issues – some companies don’t train telemarketers well or give them poorly-written scripts, so they aggravate the people they call right away. On the other hand, some telemarketers don’t try very hard and are actually carrying on conversations with other people when you answer the phone!! But, as I said before, the worst is the companies that use recorded messages because they keep the connection open long after you hang up. i do agree that at least they’re employed, though.
Jackie, I bet you never once said to a person you called, “Is this the person to whom I am speaking?” LOL That’s the kind of stuff that’s just too ridiculous for words! 🙂
Oh goodness haha … that’s a good one! Next time have Miss Daisy answer the phone 😉
LOL Now THAT would be something different! 🙂
We’ll soon be getting the Do Not Call registry implemented in Singapore and, boy, are we ever eagerly anticipating it! But I’m sure there’ll be a few telemarketers out there who will manage to find our numbers… some way, some how…
They always do. Here, we can never be truly finished with them because charities and political calls are exempt, and they can be VERY annoying! Also, any company, and its affiliates, that you share your phone number with (because you open a credit account) have a right to call. Ugh. Kind of a limited blessing!
As someone who runs a website like you, I get telemarkers all the time asking if I want to enhance my website. My answer, “I’ll tell you what – if I do, I will call a reputable professional who doesn’t need to beg people for business.”
This reminds me of a time before the do not call list when I was getting telemarketers all the time. I finally wrote a few dialogs as jokes and one turned out really well. Here is how it went:
Call comes in and I answer in a thick southern accent, “Lucy Lucious Whore House, How can I help you?” This was followed by a short silence before a girl finally asked, “Is Dawn Ross there?” at which I replied, “She is with a client at the moment. Would you like to make an appointment?”
It went on from there. It was a good thing they couldn’t see my face because it was hilarious!
