The Good, Crazy, & Adorable Life of One Havachon Puppy

Daisy and The Roofers….Noise Upon Noise

on July 19, 2011

So Summer Project #1 is finally done – our new roof is in place. Woohoo!

I'm watching you...through every single window....

Roofing means lots of noise, lots of strange workmen, and one very ruffled Havachon.

A very ruffled Havachon means lots of barking, racing around, and whining.

It’s the whining that I can’t stand. 😦

I do have to say, though, that Daisy calmed down after the first ten torturous minutes each day. Well, she calmed down to the point where she didn’t have to bark constantly – she still sat at attention, trotted around trying to locate the source of each BANG and went berserk when she saw workmen climbing up ladders or walking past windows. But hey, at least I didn’t have to endure 10 hours a day of nonstop barking!

These roofers started at 7 AM and worked until 5 PM for three days straight, including Saturday. So much for a sleep-in on the weekend!

Fortunately, the weather was with us. No rain, and the severe heat of temperatures in excess of 100° was replaced by temps in the low 90s. Believe it or not, that actually seemed like a relief!

It was interesting to see that even roofers have become aware of the dangers of sun exposure – they all wore long pants,

And now you're over there...I still see you, you can't escape me!

long-sleeved shirts, and wide-brimmed hats! Gone are the good ol’ days of shorts-wearing, shirtless workmen with muscles glistening in the sun LOL!

Daisy missed all of her daytime naps; needless to say, she was pooped from lack of sleep and having her inner watchdog cued up every second of every day.

Summer Project #2 – complete kitchen makeover!

It’s great to have a project done and checked off your list:) Congrats. Tiffy would have acted the same way as Daisy with all the workers around… They have a lot in common:)

They sure do! I’m dreading the kitchen revamping even more since the workers will be right here in the house and I’ll have to stay in another room with Daisy, which she will NOT like at all! She wants to be where the action is!

  2. Mumsy, Chancy and Crew says:

Oh, sweet Daisy we bet you are glad all the noise and excitement from the roofers being there is all done. Chancy barks too when things like that are going on. You sweet woofies just don’t like strange things going on around our place do you? Hugs and nose kisses

  3. Carly says:

Glad to hear you got your roof finished! Good luck on your kitchen! I’m sure it will look great!

Poor Daisy, she must have been very confused and anxious seeing all those workmen coming and going – and the constant banging must have driven her crazy. . .she probably wondered why you were letting it all happen!
Now the work is finished she can rest easy and get back into her normal routine, enjoying her naps in peace and quiet!
Love the pics of her on guard.

I always feel sorry for domestic animals when something out-of-the-ordinary is going on in their homes that they don’t understand. I was glad that at least I was home to comfort her so she wasn’t confused AND alone!

Just discovered your blog. Daisy is very cute. I am sure all of the noise was a bit traumatic for her. I bet she had a good long snooze once they were done.

    • raisingdaisy says:

Hello browndawgs, and thanks for visiting! Daisy seemed to handle it pretty well generally, and when it made her a little nervous, she cuddled up close to me. (I LOVED that part!) She appeared to enjoy acting like a guard dog, though! 🙂

  6. Hey Daisy,

I can tell from those pics that you make and excellent guard dog! There’s no getting past you – did the workmen bring you treats? When we had painters in they brought me treats every day, I’d say it definitely helped! 🙂

Hope you’re enjoying the peace and quiet!

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

    • raisingdaisy says:

You’re lucky, Snoopy – my mom gave the workmen lots of cold drinks every day, but they never gave me any treats. 😦 I’ve been catching up on my sleep since they left – I prefer it when the only noise around here comes from me! 😉

  7. It sounds like you’ve got a very busy summer ahead of you. And Daisy will be equally busy with her new summer job as the construction site supervisor! Good luck with the kitchen renovation—it’ll be interesting to see how Daisy responds to commotion in the house. Let us know how it all unfolds 😉

We are glad that you got a new roof! Yay! We have been through that as well…a fair amount of barking did take place in the beginning!

Thanks for visiting Chloe and LadyBug (what a cute name!) The best thing about getting a new roof is that we don’t have to do it again for a l-o-n-g time! 😉

  9. The Hook says:

Poor dog! Glad she calmed down in time.

  10. Daisy has to be relieved. I hate all the construction noise around here too. The only day of quiet is Sunday: they don’t work. 🙂 Glad things are back to normal.
